Brian Solis designed this visual map of the current social media landscape and I personally thought that it was pretty amazing. I honestly had no idea that there were this many social media sites dedicated to anything and everything under the sun. I thought I would share this for those of you that are still deliberating on which online communities to join for the observation paper. I think that Mr. Solis did an outstanding job categorizing all of these social media sites. A peculiar thought to me is that this entire chart will be irrelevant in five years

Virtual Worlds and Web 2.0

My last blog post was about Virtual Worlds and Game-based learning but I think that I should have first posted a more formal introduction to virtual worlds. After reading more, I think that the only thing that would disqualify a Virtual World from being a Web 2.0 tool is the fact that they use simulation and sensorial stimuli. So in theory, if Web 2.0 tools utilized VR technology, there would be no reason to differentiate them. Does this sound ok to you all? Has anyone heard of the term 'Web 2.0 gaming'? I thought that it was interesting to read more about role-play as an effective learning strategy and I am now thinking that this strategy could be quite effective in the Web 2.0 world as well. I was prepared to step outside of my comfort zone and sign up for a Nuzzle account, but when I went to sign in through Twitter it stated that the application will be able to: ·          Read Tweets from your timeline. ·          See who you follow, and follow new people. ·          Update your profile. ·          Post Tweets for you. ·          See your email address. Post tweets for me!? Update my profile for me!? Excuse my French, but there is no way in hell that I will allow some private company to create and control my online identity. This caught me off guard and I am honestly wondering who would be ok with this? I imagine that some people blindly sign up without reading the fine print, but this was just too weird for me.
